How to Say for Android — Privacy Policy
Effective October 31, 2026. This policy applies only to the How to Say app for Android, published on Google Play by SAYAN YAZILIM TEKNOLOJI ANONIM SIRKETI ("we", "us"). How to Say is free to download, with an optional subscription. It does not show ads.
Information we collect
Account information
We use Firebase Authentication to manage your account. You can practice as a guest, or sign in with Google. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address from your Google account. Every account, including a guest account, has an internal account identifier.
Saved learning data
We store your learning data in Google Firebase, linked to your account, so you keep your progress and get practice that fits your level. This includes your learning profile and level, practice history and results, saved expressions and situations, and the descriptions you type for custom situations and the scenes created from them. Saved feedback may include a sentence you said in practice, an explanation and a suggested improvement. These records may contain personal details if you include them in your descriptions or speech.
We do not save raw microphone recordings or full conversation transcripts.
Feedback and reports
If you send feedback or report an AI reply in the app, we store your message, the reported reply, the situation and screen it came from, your account identifier, your email address if your account has one, and the app version.
Purchases
Google Play processes all payments. We use RevenueCat to manage your subscription status, purchase history and access to paid features, linked to your account identifier. We do not receive your payment card details.
Analytics, diagnostics and advertising measurement
We use Google Analytics for Firebase and Amplitude to understand how the app is used and to improve it. This information can include account and device identifiers, app and device details, the features you use, purchase events, and approximate location derived from your IP address. We use Firebase Crashlytics to collect crash reports and diagnostics.
Google Analytics for Firebase uses your device's advertising ID to measure our advertising, for example whether an install came from one of our ads. You can reset or delete your advertising ID in your device settings (on most devices, Settings → Privacy → Ads). How to Say does not use Meta services.
To find conversations that fail, stall or do not save, we send diagnostic events to Amplitude linked to your account. These include conversation and turn identifiers, the current conversation stage, durations, connection and audio state, error codes, recovery attempts, exits and save outcomes. They do not include audio, typed situation descriptions, conversation transcripts or the content of your feedback.
We use Firebase App Check with Google Play Integrity to confirm that requests come from a genuine copy of the app. This sends device integrity information to Google.
AI processing by Google Gemini
How to Say uses Google Gemini through Firebase AI Logic to create practice situations, talk with you, give coaching feedback and translate text. Depending on the feature you use, Google receives:
- The situation description you type and the practice context needed to create a scene.
- Voice audio recorded through your microphone during speaking practice.
- Conversation text, including transcripts of what you say, conversation messages and the context needed to create replies and feedback.
- Learning context, such as your level, target expressions and practice instructions.
- Text you ask to translate and the language you choose.
We do not send your voice, conversation text or typed situation descriptions to Google until you agree in the app. Microphone permission is asked separately when you start speaking and does not replace that agreement. You can withdraw it at any time in Profile → AI data sharing. Speaking practice and custom situations need it; browsing situations and your collection do not. Withdrawing does not by itself delete data already saved.
How to Say uses Google's paid Gemini API service. Under Google's Gemini API terms for paid services, Google processes prompts and responses on our behalf and does not use them to improve its products or train its models. Google may keep prompts and responses for a limited period for abuse prevention, security and legal obligations. This is separate from the learning records we save for you.
How we use and share information
We use the information above to run the app, save your progress, personalize practice, process your subscription, answer support requests, keep the service secure, fix problems and measure our advertising. We do not sell your personal information.
We share information only with the service providers named in this policy, who process it on our behalf: Google (Firebase, Gemini, Google Analytics, Crashlytics, Play Integrity), Amplitude and RevenueCat. We may also disclose information when the law requires it. Our providers may process data outside your country. You can read more in Google's Privacy Policy, Firebase's privacy and security information, Amplitude's Privacy Notice and RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
Notifications
If you choose a practice time, the app schedules practice reminders on your device. You can turn them off in Profile → Reminders or in your device's notification settings.
Retention and deletion
We keep your saved learning data while your account exists, so you can return to your practice history.
You can delete your account in the app through Profile → Delete account. You can also request deletion without the app on our How to Say account deletion page. Deleting your account removes the sign-in account and its saved learning data, custom situations, progress and account-linked feedback. Cleanup runs on our servers and may not finish immediately.
We keep a minimal security record with an internal account identifier and deletion timestamps, to stop deleted data from being recreated by old sessions. It contains no email address, practice content or audio. Deletion does not erase analytics or purchase records already held by our service providers; those follow the providers' retention policies and legal obligations. Uninstalling the app does not delete your account or its saved data.
Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription. Cancel it in Google Play → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions.
For access, correction or deletion requests, including data held by our service providers, email support@atlasvocabulary.com and mention How to Say. We may need to confirm that the account is yours before acting on a request.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit. We use reasonable measures to protect your information, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
Children
How to Say is intended for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact support@atlasvocabulary.com and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. We will post changes on this page and update the effective date above.
